Random Thoughts

One of the things I love about my life is the time Josh and I carefully reserve to goof off. Some people find it irritating that we don’t fall into the typical “check-the-calander-I-think-we-need-to-go-see-your-mother-this-weekend” style of life. Our calendar is consistently empty. We can stay in on a weekend and do jack shit and be absolutely beaming about it. Now, one of our favorite things to do while we are determined to do nothing is play video games (watching anime coming in at a close second). I find it amusing that, while some couples spend their time with pointless foreplay, Josh and I need only walk through the doors of a Game Stop or Best Buy in order to achieve instantaneous orgasm. There’s a beauty to it that can’t be described in mere words. I can’t possibly convey to the world how I feel about the way my life has turned out. I’m certainly happy.
My idea of a perfect life is never having to grow up. It sounds odd, but it’s true. I know I’ll have to be a good mother and a good friend and a good worker and a fantastic/kinky wife but that’s all normal stuff that I’m good at anyway. I can have those things without growing up, and here’s how – You know that feeling you had on a school day when you woke up and saw the snow, then heard someone call upstairs that class was cancelled for the day and all of your worries about homework and tests just fell right off your shoulders like plot stability in the fourth season of an inexplicably popular anime? I want to have that feeling into my sixties. If I can still wake up on a Saturday morning, drink a cup of tea and play a video game or watch an anime or even regular cartoons, and STILL have that feeling of the world’s worries and stresses sliding off of me with no residue – then I’ll know my life is perfect.
I married Josh because I know he can give me that, even without trying, because he’s just like that too.

On a completely unrelated note: We were shopping at Jungle Jim’s the other day and Josh made a comment about Bangers and (slightly later) Mash (Bangers and Mash is a popular breakfast in Britain I suppose, as his co-worker is from there) and instantly my mind froze. Now, the reason for this abrupt halt in cognitive function was the fact that, just as he said ‘Bangers and Mash’, I had the image of the Dragon Quest VIII characters of the same name in my head: those two little kids that were standing outside Jessica’s door as she changed out of her rich girl clothes and transformed into a traveler cleverly disguised as a whip-wielding harlot. I suppose I must have appeared quite dumbfounded, because a moment later he almost looked worried as he proceeded to explain what he meant.
Is it wrong of me to feel proud of myself because the first thing that jumped into my head was a video game?

The name of the Game is: Mystic Hopscotch.

Ever have that feeling that your mind is wandering without you? You're awake and perfectly aware of what you're involved in at the time and yet all you can do is sit there and wonder how you got from trying to write an inspiring Sestina involving Knuckles the Echidna to pondering the meaning of life from the viewpoint of a neurotic house elf. I call that feeling Mystic Hopscotch. When your third eye has run amok, leaving your Id, Ego and Super-Ego to engage in the psychological equivalent to Super Smash Brothers Brawl; THAT is Mystic Hopscotch.
This blog, when I manage to update it, will contain my odd thoughts, disturbing dreams, insignificant life events, progress in all of my video games and the occasional Bento Box. My references may zig-zag erratically from one genre to another with no separation. If you don't understand me: tough cookies. I know what I'm saying, at least most of the time, so I don't really mind if nobody else gets it.

Right... the personal stuff now. I am an Otaku who married an Otaku. I don't think anyone else could put up with me, honestly. I am five years younger than him and like to torment him about it sometimes, reminding him that when I was 15 he was 20 and I was illegal. It's fun to watch him mull over that for a little bit whenever I say it. Ironically this is the same comment that brings him out of depression on many occasions.

Note to Self: Don't play Dark Chronicle while drinking ever ever again.
I have a longhair black cat named Doorstop who gave birth to tortoiseshell kittens named Caboose, The Captain, Shanny and Booger. Booger is evil incarnate and angering her is tantamount to suicide. Booger lives with my mother, The Captain and Shanny belong to a co-worker and Caboose lives with his father Zuko with my ex-flatmate Erica. Don't be so surprised. If something is born in my apartment and I helped deliver I'm going to keep track of the little buggers.

I also have two hamsters that will be named after they survive through the week, since my last two did not. My husband has a BIG grey cat with brown spots named Spork, after the Eldest Irkin Almighty Tallest that wasn't mentioned too much in the ZIM series.
I take Bento Boxes to work full of good healthy food that for some reason isn't helping me lose weight. It's an addicting hobby, much like Katamari Damacy. Unlike Katamari Damacy, one cannot use a Bento Box to roll up people and set them on fire in the sky, even if they are already moving away from you.

There was a point to this entry but it has temporarily escaped my mind. I have sent the Flying Monkeys after it, but Azkadellia hasn't been in very good control of them lately. She called them Mobats and they got all offended. Will send the Good Feathers to track Flying Monkeys, and maybe a few Trollans for moral support.
